Allah says:

وَجَاوَزْنَا بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْبَحْرَ فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ وَجُنُودُهُ بَغْيًا وَعَدْوًا حَتَّى إِذَا أَدْرَكَهُ الْغَرَقُ قَالَ آمَنتُ أَنَّهُ لا إِلِـهَ إِلاَّ الَّذِي آمَنَتْ بِهِ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ وَأَنَاْ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Fir’aun and his hosts followed them in

insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: “I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit- to Allah in Islam”

In this Ayah (10:90), Allah subhanahu wata`ala tells us about the behavior of Pharaoh when he was so close to death. As the ayah reveals that when he was about to drown, he declared the testimony of tawheed (oneness of Allah in worship). This might be similar to the attitude of some Muslims today when they are so close to the beginning of Ramadan, they suddenly declare the return to the masajid (mosques) and masahif (Qur’aan). Know, may Allah have mercy on me and you, that the Messenger (peace be upon him) had said in the authentic hadith reported by Abu Daud, ibn Hibban and others, he who imitates a group of people, then he is one of them. Run to Allah, while you still have the chance–Don’t be like Pharaoh.
